The challenge

Create a comfortable, beautiful, and energy-efficient home for an active woman who uses a wheelchair and her environmentally conscious family. Multiple cost estimates for a plan drawn by another firm were a shock to the client.

The solution

Modify a plan drawn by another firm, reducing square footage by 20% and the cost by almost a third. The modified design had an open floor plan, extensive use of universal design features, and many energy-saving features that earned the highest possible ratings from GreenBuilt Michigan and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program.
